The ŗ«Å®Šć Institute launches its new podcast series – She Knows It

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be an orthopaedic surgeon or what sort of leadership opportunities exist in nursing? What about working in hospitals in a non medical role?

The answer to all these questions and more are shared through a new careers initiative at ŗ«Å®Šć FCJ College focused on women in STEM and Health.

The She Knows It podcast is a vibrant, student led resource featuring women who work in various roles at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. The podcast celebrates the work and careers of women who work in STEM and Health, to dispute stereotypes and explore the challenges and rewards women experience throughout their careers.

The host of the podcast is Anastazia Drake, a Year 12 ŗ«Å®Šć student who has crafted much of this work with her own research and technical skills. During the podcast series, she asks practical questions to learn about the day to day activities involved in different occupations; and adeptly highlights the personal attributes and successes of the women in these roles. Anastazia’s upbeat interviewing style adds a relaxed and contemporary vibe to each episode, making listening both informative and enjoyable.

The project is an initiative of the ŗ«Å®Šć Institute and ; and is offered as an enterprise activity through one of the College’s Centres of Excellence – STEM & Enterprise. This area focuses on providing practical educational experiences that equip students for the careers of tomorrow, as shared by Rebecca MacFarling, Deputy Director of St Vincent’s Foundation.

ā€œWe are thrilled to be working with the ŗ«Å®Šć Institute on this project to support and promote the amazing work of women at St Vincent’s Hospitalā€, she said.

ā€œWe hope the podcast will provide an accessible platform for young people to learn more about careers in healthā€. She Knows It, Episode 1, features Dr Helen Frazer, 2022 Winner of Women in AI Innovator of the Year. Listen to the podcast here.
