Nocturnal animals come out for the day

The children in ELC were treated to a special group of visitors on Tuesday, ones who don’t usually venture far in the daylight. 

This term the students have been learning about nocturnal animals, and were given the opportunity to get up close and personal with some slimy and spiky creatures from the night. ‘Wild Action’ have their own private zoo amongst the Macedon Ranges and brought along a collection of animals to show the children during this incursion.

While some students took a backward step when the large python appeared, they were encouraged to feel it’s scaly cold skin and felt much safer once the handler assured them she would keep the snake’s head well away from their little fingers. Other animals displayed on the day included an echnidna, a crocodile, wallaby, kookaburra, sugar glider and ringtail possum. 

The opportunity to meet some our native animals was not lost on the children, and their excitement was audible, particularly as they imitated the sound of the kookaburra!
