Family Week at Ů

Family Week is an opportunity to reflect and celebrate the role of families.

Pope Francis said, “the family is the fundamental cell of society, where we learn to live with others despite our differences and to belong to one another.”

At Ů, the Social Justice Representatives, under the leadership of our Prefect, Erin Donoghue, have worked towards this goal of supporting families. The students organised two major events.

The first was a comedy debate on Tuesday 10 May in Centenary Hall, between Ů and St Kevin’s College. The topic was a contentious one, “That the Easter Bunny is better than the Tooth Fairy” with Ů arguing the affirmative side. Speakers from both schools entertained the large audience, but Ů were the winners on the day. Antony Sinni, from St Kevin’s College, was voted the best speaker. It was a very successful event, and hopefully the first of many.

On Wednesday 11 May, the students at Grange Hill participated in a Jump4Justice skipping event. The Prep to Year 4 students were assisted by the social justice representatives from the senior school, our Principal, Ms Jebb, and Sr Maryrose, fcJ. There was some very impressive skipping from all.

Both these events raised money for CatholicCare, to support their work with families in need.

In addition to these events, students are also organising a clothing, toiletries and gifts drive to support the work of the youth shelter ‘Launch Housing’. This organisation works to break the cycle of homelessness, create opportunities, and help young people lead independent and fulfilling lives.
